Apple, Pear, and Marzipan Tart

February 6, 2017

For the last week I have been day dreaming of France.  We had the wonderful opportunity to meet up friends and family along our 2 week road trip through the country. One of my favorite things to eat there were the pear tarts.  I put my own twist on the pear tart and alternated pear and apple along with placing surprise strips of marzipan under neath the fruit to really top off the flavor.  This dish is quick, easy to make, and stunningly beautiful!  Enjoy.

Serves: 4

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 12-14 minutes

Half a Sheet of Puff Pastry

1 Pear Sliced Thin

1 Apple Sliced Thin

Marzipan Block

2 Tbsp. Melted Salted Butter

1 1/2 Tbsp. Brown Sugar

1 tsp. Vanilla Extract

1/2 tsp. Ground Cinnamon

Pinch of Nutmeg

1) Preheat oven to  400°F. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured work surface into a rectangle size to fit your standard size baking sheet.  Be sure to curl over the edges of the puff pastry and place onto buttered baking sheet. Lightly score the inside of the puff pastry.

2) Now make 3 flat lines of marzipan (about 1/2 inch each width) and place long ways down the sides and middle of the puff pastry.

3) Combine butter, brown sugar, vanilla, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg and brush half of the butter mixture onto the puff pastry. Now make alternating rows of apple and pear slices.  I made about 3-4 rows of each, while making a fan like pattern. Brush the remaining butter mixture onto the tops of the fruit gently.

 4) Bake for about 12-14 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden brown.  Let rest for about 10 minutes. To take this dessert really over the top, add a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.

5) Eat and enjoy!!
